Škoda’s new generation Superb has finally arrived in Irish showrooms. The highly anticipated, Hatch and Combi estate are available to test drive with a familiar engine line up including a 1.5 TSI mild-hybrid and a HVO compatible 2.0 TDI diesel. Both engine options are paired to 7-speed DSG automatic transmissions.
The addition of a Plug-in Hybrid Superb, with a WLTP battery range of 124 kilometres, is certain to attract fleet and retail customers to a segment Škoda has dominated for the last seven years. There has been a 22.3% increase in Irish sales for Plug-in-hybrid vehicles year on year, with this trend likely to continue.
At the heart of the Superb PHEV is a 25.7 kWh battery that benefits from DC fast charging speeds of up to 50 kW, enabling 10-80% state of charge to be achieved in just 26 minutes. An 85 kW electric motor works in tandem with a 1.5 TSI petrol engine and 6-speed DSG transmission to provide a combined system output of 150 kW (202 bhp) with maximum torque of 350 Nm. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h is completed in just 8.1 seconds. Without the assistance of the petrol engine, the new Superb PHEV can travel up to 124 kilometres on pure electric drive (according to the WLTP cycle). Annual road tax is just €120 per annum. The Superb PHEV is available to order now in Combi estate guise with the Hatch version arriving in Spring 2025.
Ray Leddy, Head of Marketing and Product at Škoda Ireland, says: “The Superb has been the standard-bearer of Škoda’s range for more than 20 years. Many competitors have abandoned the large saloon and estate segment, leaving retail and fleet customers with only premium brand options. We are confident the new Superb can compete toe to toe with the best premium German cars on quality and refinement while surpassing them in terms of spaciousness and value. We are particularly excited with the introduction of the new Superb PHEV with a 124 km WLTP fully electric range. The Superb Combi PHEV can provide a fully electric daily commute for the vast majority of Irish drivers, without any range anxiety for those who aren’t ready to make the change to a fully electric vehicle”
There are three Superb Combi PHEV versions to choose from, with finance offers from 0% HP or 1.9% PCP. The entry level “Selection” (from €54,385) features keyless entry with an alarm and an electrically operated boot door. The “Selection Plus” model (from €56,885) adds interior ambient lighting as well as ventilated leather seats with massage function. A luxurious and heavily specified “Laurin & Klement” model (from €63,545) is also available. Early ordering is advised to secure a Superb PHEV for early 2025.
